We embrace that Apple Embraces Healthcare
We are thrilled with the announcement that Apple, the global communications provider, has announced new software which works with third-party wearable health devices.
This is an exciting time for telehealth and for such a big brand to be embracing this as an opportunity has to be to all our benefits.
The technology, called HealthKit, is something of a watershed in the telecare arena and can, with the use of parallel application Health, measure and record a patient’s health statistics which can then be communicated to healthcare professionals. In this way, a patient’s statistics, such as their blood pressure or heart-rate can be shared with their GP – or even trigger an emergency hospital alert.
Using this technology may negate the use of some types of monitoring equipment – which can be expensive to both purchase and maintain and which requires time from both patient and medical staff to set up, analyse and return.
The remote aspect of telehealth is a sophisticated, yet easy and flexible approach to healthcare which is convenient for both clinician and patient. Vitally, considering our ever-aging population, it is a cost effective way of managing patient care.
The future of telecare is exciting, particularly when it is being facilitated in such a mainstream way as Apple shows us. The upshot is that this technology has every chance of starting to form the fabric of our day-to-day lives, improving the delivery of health and social care for all.
If you’re thinking about how telecare could work for your service, we’d be happy to have a chat.
